Dating Well
Dr. William Swann, of The University of Texas at Austin, recently completed a study of his dating students. Their length of dating ranged from 3 weeks to 6 years. To see how much they had learned about their partners through dating, he asked them a number of questions, Newly Wed Game style. The results explain a lot. We don't date well. Well, most of us don't. The average % of correct answers was less than 34%.
In the same study, those dating longer did no better than those who had just started dating! Yes, on average, those dating 5 or 6 years knew their partners no better than those dating only 3 to 4 weeks.
I think the answer to this mystery is simple: you can learn a lot in the first couple of dates - but only if you do it right! (A few people date well. Most do it poorly.)
