Addicted to love?  Yes!

The word "addiction" is overused in our society.  Any craving, any habit, is quickly labeled an addiction.  Hey, these days if you're not addicted to something, you're just out of it!  Serious researchers, though, prefer to reserve the term addiction for dependencies that result in physiological withdrawal symptoms when the substance is removed, especially if the removal is sudden.  Heroin, morphine, alcohol, and other barbiturates routinely result in these symptoms once the user is hooked.  Well, so does romantic love!  If it ends suddenly, lovers often shake, experience cold sweats (many times awakening to a soaked bed), have body aches, chills, numbness, diarrhea, vomiting, disorientation - the full range of physiological withdrawal symptoms.  For a fuller discussion of this, see (if you haven't already):

What is this thing called love: What the research says (in three pages).
